(Sioux City, IA) — Underwood will try to make a return trip to the state baseball tournament tonight facing Orange City Unity Christian in the 2A Substate Finals, coverage on KSOM.
Underwood is 22-4 with wins over Clarinda and Tri Center in the district. Head Coach Andy Vanfossan will go with Blake Brensel tonight — he is 5-1 with a 3.85 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 36 innings.
Unity Christian is 23-9 and led by Senior Dylan Bosma who is hitting .383, 1 HR, 28 RBI and on the mound is 6-2 with a 2.59 ERA. He has pitched against the Eagles before and Vanfossan says he is tough and his hitters will have to be patient
These two teams are familiar with one another — they have played at the state tournament twice in a row. The Knights won last year 5-0 — Vanfossan thinks they might have played with a chip on their shoulder after the Eagles were seeded higher. Underwood won in 2024 on their way to a state title.
