(Coon Rapids, IA) — AHSTW will hope the slipper fits on Cinderella’s shoe tonight in a Class 1A District final baseball game at #1 Coon Rapids Bayard, coverage on KSOM.
The Vikings are 15-11 and are the underdog against the top seeded Crusaders. AHSTW beat Audubon 6-0 and CAM 9-5 in their first two games of the post-season — on paper CRB is a dominating team but Head Coach Trey Brix for AHSTW says why not us but Coon Rapids Bayard has a lot of advantages
CRB is led by the Heydon brothers — Junior Ty is hitting .607 with 7 HR and 59 RBI while Senior Cal is batting .544, 6 HR and 40 RBI. Brix is not sure who will start on the mound for him — Camdyn Dresen cannot pitch after throwing too many in the district semis so it might be a by-committee approach. Whomever is on the mound will have to find a way to deal with the Heydon brothers who walk a lot and do not strike out
Coon Rapids Bayard is 26-3 — their only losses are to Kuemper Catholic, Saydel and West Marshall. After a first round bye, AC/GC played the Crusaders tough before falling 5-1. CRB has every pitcher available and Head Coach John Waddle is also planning on a by-committee approach on the mound. The Heydon brothers are options with Ty as the ace but Waddle says they have other guys as well that he has confidence in
Waddle is well familiar with the Vikings and even though they will not blow you away with their statistics, they are playing really well right now
AHSTW visits Coon Rapids Bayard in the District 15 final of Substate 8; first pitch is 7 pm, coverage on 96.5 FM KSOM. The winner will play either Mount Ayr or Lenox in the Substate final on Tuesday, July 14.
