(Atlantic) The Atlantic Planning and Zoning Commission will continue its work on Tuesday, July 14, to update the county’s zoning ordinances, with discussions centered on stand-alone garages, commercial and industrial zoning regulations, and definitions for shouses and barndominiums.
Commission members are scheduled to review the initial draft language for stand-alone garages and discuss any recommended revisions. Following the discussion, the commission is expected to consider whether to send the proposed language to the drafting stage to prepare a final version.
The commission will also review proposed amendments to Articles 10 through 14 of the zoning ordinance, which govern commercial and industrial zoning districts. Members will discuss the initial draft changes, consider recommendations, and vote on whether to forward the amended articles to drafting for a final version.
Also on the agenda is a review of proposed definitions for shouses and barndominiums, residential building styles that have become increasingly common in rural areas. Commissioners will discuss the proposed definitions to help ensure the zoning ordinance provides clear and consistent standards for these types of structures. Following the discussion, the commission is expected to vote on sending the definitions to drafting for inclusion in the final ordinance revisions.
The meeting is part of the county’s ongoing effort to modernize its zoning regulations. Once drafting is complete, the proposed ordinance updates are expected to return to the Planning and Zoning Commission for further review before proceeding with adoption.
The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. On Tuesday, July 14, in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
