(Council Bluffs, IA) — Governor Kim Reynolds has reappointed Council Bluffs resident Jerry Mathiasen to the State Terrace Hill Commission, extending his service on the nine-member panel that helps preserve and oversee Iowa’s historic governor’s residence.
Mathiasen began his new three-year term on July 1. The appointment marks his sixth term on the commission, making him the second-longest serving member in the commission’s history. The only individual to serve longer is former First Lady Chris Branstad, who was a commissioner for 22 years. First Gentleman Kevin Reynolds is currently serving in his 10th year on the commission.
Located in Des Moines, Terrace Hill is a National Historic Landmark and has served as the Iowa Governor’s Residence since 1976. The bipartisan commission is responsible for assisting in the preservation, restoration, and administration of the historic mansion, which was built in 1869.
Mathiasen joined Governor Reynolds, First Gentleman Kevin Reynolds, and fellow commissioners on June 6 for the annual “Gala in the Garden,” where officials broke ground on the reconstruction of the original B.F. Allen greenhouse that stood on the Terrace Hill grounds more than 150 years ago.
A retired president and CEO of the area’s community foundation, Mathiasen also serves on the Pottawattamie County Conservation Board and remains active in philanthropy through the Cindy & Jerry Mathiasen Family Fund.
Additional information about tours, events, and ways to support Terrace Hill is available through the State Terrace Hill website.
