(Des Moines) Iowa drivers are seeing little change at the gas pump this week, while diesel prices posted a more noticeable decline.
According to the latest weekly fuel report from AAA, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa is $3.53 per gallon as of Wednesday. That’s down one cent from last week but 57 cents higher than the price one year ago.
The national average for regular unleaded gasoline is $3.85 per gallon, a decrease of 8 cents from last week.
Diesel prices in Iowa fell more significantly, dropping 17 cents over the past week to a statewide average of $4.35 per gallon. Despite the weekly decline, diesel remains well above last year’s average of $3.58 per gallon. Iowa’s current diesel price is also 49 cents below the national average of $4.84 per gallon.
Crude oil prices also moved lower this week. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil fell $2.37 per barrel to $68.06, while Brent crude dropped $2.91 to $71.10 per barrel. One year ago, WTI crude was selling for $66.64 per barrel, while Brent crude averaged $67.63.
In the heating fuels market, natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site fell 3 cents this week to $3.21 per million British thermal units (MMBtu). AAA will resume reporting Iowa retail heating oil and propane prices in October.
