(Griswold, IA) — First place is on the line in the Corner Conference softball standings tonight as Griswold CAM hosts Fremont Mills, coverage on KSOM.
The Tigers are 9-1 in the conference and are led by Senior Braxton Gipple who is hitting .571 with 11 RBI. She has struck out just one time all season. Gipple did not play last year because of an ankle injury — she says she was motivated to play this year so she worked hard in physical therapy
Gipple also had to have nose surgery because she was suffering from migraine headaches. All of this has led her to wanting to become a surgical technician — she will be going to DMACC to train for that and is currently working part time at Cass Health where she has been able to interact with patients
Griswold CAM has won 20 or more games in a seasons 5 years in a row but each time they have stumbled in the playoffs. There are some tough games comin up for the Tigers down the stretch and seeing good pitchers will help them. Gipple says they have to stay positive
The Knights have not lost in the conference this year with a 9-0 mark — Fremont Mills beat the Tigers 9-1 back on June 5. They have two solid pitchers — Senior Saige Mitchell has a ERA of 1.40 and Freshman Adelynn Billingsley has an ERA of 2.22. Senior Lana Alley is hitting .591 with 12 RBI and 33 stolen bases. The Knights have 116 stolen bases total which ranks 2nd in Class 1A. Gipple says they are a good team
