(Des Moines) According to AAA, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa has decreased by 13 cents compared to last week, now sitting at $3.78 per gallon.
This week, global crude oil prices declined, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) dropping by $5.47 per barrel to $90.43. Meanwhile, Brent crude oil fell by $4.98, and is now at $92.97. For context, one year ago, WTI crude was priced at $65.66, and Brent at $68.41.
As of Wednesday, Iowa’s average price for regular unleaded gasoline is $3.78, down 13 cents from the previous week but up 86 cents from this time last year. The national average price is currently $4.15, which is down 11 cents from last week. Additionally, diesel prices in Iowa fell 14 cents this week to an average of $4.87, down from $3.30 a year ago. Iowa’s diesel price is 43 cents below the national average of $5.30. In Des Moines, the current terminal/rack prices are $2.70 per gallon for U87-E10, $3.34 per gallon for Unleaded 87 (clear), $3.44 per gallon for ULSD#2, $3.62 per gallon for ULSD#1, and $2.37 per gallon for E-70.
Natural gas prices saw a slight 2-cent increase at the Henry Hub reporting site, to $3.22 per MMbtu. We will resume reporting on retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa come October.
