(Harlan, IA) — Last season, the Harlan football team was in a position it is not used to. For the first time since 2016, the Cyclones finished the season under .500 and missed the playoffs at 4-5. Head Coach Todd Bladt says the boys simply have to get back to work and they have been this past week. Bladt says last year’s team was actually pretty close to being a winning team
This year Harlan loses its starting QB Gabe Arkfeld but Junior Kreed Boggess is ready to take over. Bladt says the offensive line lost four starters and he has seven guys fighting for five spots in practice. There is also competition on the defensive line and secondary. Bladt says there is some competition at linebacker but Harlan has some experience there
Harlan has a combined scrimmage on Friday, August 21 with Clarinda, CBTJ and St. Albert and Bladt says that they will use that as a determination on who wins jobs. He says there are some things to do to get this team ready for their first game
Harlan opens their season on Friday, August 28 hosting Underwood.
