(Waterloo, IA) — The leaderboard is packed with only seven shots separating the top seven teams and Atlantic is right in the thick of it at the Class 3A Boys State Golf Tournament.
As a team, the Trojans are tied for 4th place with MOC Floyd Valley but there are three teams tied for first place and Atlantic and the Dutch are only one stroke back. Knoxville, Ballard, and North Polk all shot a 309 in the first round while the Trojans shot a 310. Solon is in 6th place with a 312 and Pella is 7th with a 314.
According to Head Coach Kendra Henningsen, “The boys played solid but did leave some shots out on the course. They are excited to compete Wednesday for a state championship.”
Low round for Atlantic was Gage Gross with (+4) 76 — Gross played steady and solid golf with 5 bogeys, a birdie 3 on the par 4 7th hole and 12 pars and is tied for 10th individually.
Sam Brosam shot a (+5) 77 including back to back birdies on holes four and five. Hudson McLaren also had a (+5) 77 that did include a dreaded snowman 8 on the par 5 15th hole — the senior did get a birdie 3 on the par 4 9th hole. Brady Wood shot a (+8) 80 — Wood struggled on the front nine with a 44 but played even par on the back nine including a birdie 4 on the par 5 10th hole. Also for Atlantic, Braxton Hass shot 90. Jack Muller’s score was discarded for playing the wrong ball — he will play on Wednesday.
Tee time for round two Wednesday is 9:00 am.
