(Corning, IA) — Southwest Valley’s baseball team only lost one player off last year’s team so Head Coach Keegan Longabaugh is hoping for improvement on last year’s 10-11 squad — Longabuagh says they are bringing back their top three hitters and their top two pitchers. On the mound, Senior Gavin Wetzel threw 34 innings and had a 4.12 ERA while Sophomore Casey Jones threw 34 innings and had a 5.65 ERA. Longabaugh says they are both horses and Jones came around sooner than expected
Junior Walker Bissell made 11 appearances with 3 starts on the mound and Longabuagh hopes his numbers improve; Juniors Ethan Johnston and Freshman Caleb Owen will be there to pitch as well.
Hitting was not a problem with the Timberwolves with a .301 team batting average and it starts with Wetzel who hit .482 with 16 RBIs last season
Bissell hit .431 with a team leading 35 RBI; Junior Brody Crozier hit .367; Jones was at .257; Johnston .262; Sophomore Wyatt Shires .278 — Longabaugh also has a group of younger players who he hopes will take a step forward this year
Southwest Valley will open their season on Tuesday, May 26 at Nodaway Valley.
