(Harlan, IA) — The Harlan Girls Track and Field team is like most teams right now — getting ready for the state qualifying meet next Thursday. This past Thursday, the Cyclones had some solid performances at the conference meet — the Distance Medley relay finished first with Brinley Van Baale, Josie Sonderman, Paige Sonderman and Julia Heslink. Heslink also won the 800 for Harlan plus the Shuttle Hurdle Relay was 2nd and Ari Daniels was 3rd in the 100 Hurdles.
Right now, the D Med team ranks 2nd in the Glenwood Region behind Des Moines Christian — the top two finishers at the meet will qualify automatically to state. Besides the Distance Medley, Head Coach Jenny Hamilton is looking at other relays to do well
Heslink is a freshman and currently leads the region in the 800 plus ranks 3rd in the 400 and 5th in the 1500. Hamilton says she is so versatile, she could run just about anywhere
Sophomore Ashlyn Rau is another potential state qualifier who rans 3rd in the 1500. Hamilton is looking at other girls who can make their mark at regionals
Atlantic will also be among the teams joining Harlan at Glenwood — the meet starts with field events at 4 pm and the running events at 4:45 pm, we will have reports on KS 95.7 FM.
