(Des Moines) At the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates, U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn gathered Iowa leaders for a roundtable focused on expanding global trade opportunities and strengthening the state’s agricultural and business economy.
The event, hosted by the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, brought together about 50 representatives from agriculture, business, military, and civic sectors. Discussions centered on advancing a Farm Bill that reflects Iowa priorities, securing supply chains, and opening new international markets.
Nunn said Iowa farmers and small businesses compete globally every day and need strong policies to succeed, including new trade agreements and reliable market access.
The meeting follows a recent congressional trip led by Nunn to Taiwan, where he advocated for expanded access for Iowa agriculture and ethanol under a proposed U.S.-Taiwan trade agreement. Iowa exported more than $225 million in agricultural goods to Taiwan last year, and the deal would eliminate tariffs as high as 26% on products like beef, dairy, and corn if approved.
Participants at the roundtable emphasized the importance of keeping Iowa producers competitive in an increasingly global economy.
