(Area) Residents across the state will have an opportunity this weekend to safely dispose of unused or expired medications during National Take Back Day.
The event is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering a convenient and anonymous way for people to clean out their medicine cabinets and help prevent prescription drug misuse.
Officials say unused medications too often fall into the wrong hands, leading to dangerous and sometimes tragic consequences. Take Back Day aims to reduce that risk by providing secure collection sites nationwide.
The effort has seen significant participation in recent years. During the October 2025 Take Back Day, a total of 571,054 pounds — or 286 tons — of prescription drugs were collected.
Several local agencies will serve as drop-off sites in southwest Iowa, including the Audubon County Sheriff’s Office, Red Oak Police Department, Mills County Sheriff’s Office, and Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office.
