(Fort Dodge) #10 Atlantic softball team extended their record to 20-2, blanking Clear Creek Amana in the Trojans’ opening game at the Fort Dodge Tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Trojans scored eight runs on ten hits, while committing just one error. Atlantic played a solid game all the way around, turning two double-plays, behind the solid pitching of Brynn Lamp. The junior allowed no runs on three hits, while striking out two, and walked four batters.
Atlantic got off to a good start, striking first in the opening inning when London Kirchhoff hit a single that brought in one run. The game became a pitchers’ battle until the top of the sixth inning. The Trojans opened up the game with five runs on two hits. Two runs scored on a fielder’s choice, followed by Lila Wiederstein’s two RBI single. A Clipper error resulted in the fifth run of the frame putting Atlantic on top 6-0. The Trojans added two more insurance runs at the top of the seventh to secure the 8-0 win.
For the Clippers, Elizabeth Timmerman, along with Elizabeth Pasbrig and Addilyn Scheetz, each registered one hit.
Atlantic will face Cedar Rapids, Kennedy at 5:45 p.m.
