(Atlantic) The Atlantic baseball team avenged an earlier loss with a thrilling 9-8 victory over Shenandoah last night.
Atlantic amassed nine runs on eight hits compared to Shenandoah’s eight runs on six hits. Tyler Babe stood out for the Mustangs, contributing two of their hits.
For Atlantic, Zayden Parker built on his two-hit performance from Thursday, going 2-for-4 with an impactful RBI. Kale Jensen made a significant contribution as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and crossing home plate three times. Cooper Woolsey hit his second home run of the season, while Keston Schmitt proved to be the hero, going 2-for-3 and delivering a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the victory for the Trojans.
Shenandoah started the game strong, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning and maintaining a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. However, the Trojans responded fiercely, netting three runs to narrow the gap to 5-4. Atlantic surged ahead with three additional runs in the fifth inning, taking a 7-5 lead. The Mustangs fought back, tying the game in the sixth, and both teams exchanged runs in the seventh, pushing the contest into extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, Schmitt’s clutch performance delivered the decisive hit, earning Atlantic a hard-fought victory and a much-needed momentum boost as the season progresses.
