(Des Moines, IA) — The Sporrer sisters are making waves for Morningside on the track this spring. Courtney is a Senior with the Mustangs and Madison is a freshman — they are Logan Magnolia grads and they were both at the blue oval on Friday competing in the Drake Relays.
Courtney finished an impressive 2nd place in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 11:03.05 — Mya Curtis of Iowa Western was the winner at 10:47.36. Earlier in the day, Madison was part of the 4×800 relay that finished in 8th place out of 16 teams with a time of 9:25.84.
On April 17 in Orange City, Courtney claimed first place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17 minutes, 53.99 seconds, controlling the race from the front to give the Mustangs their lone victory of the meet.
In the Sioux City Relays on April 11, Courtney won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:09.58. The senior also added a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters, crossing in 4:47.98 to score in two distance events. Madison was part of the 4×400 relay that finished in sixth with a time of 4:23.34.
On March 28 at a meet in Wayne, NE, Courtney won the mile in 4:56.00 before returning to claim the 5,000-meter title in 18:41.35. The senior controlled both races and showcased her range across distances in leading the Mustangs. Morningside also placed two runners on the podium in the mile, as Madison finished second in 4:59.25 to give the Mustangs a 1-2 finish in the event.
During the indoor season, both Sporrer sisters were part of the 4×800 team that set a new school record in NAIA Indoor Championships in the prelims and claiming All-America status in the event, placing sixth with a time of 9:11.74.
