(Clarinda, IA) — Clarinda used its home course advantage to beat Atlantic boys golf by three strokes at the Larry Scherf Cardinal Classic on Thursday. Clarinda had a team score of 299 while the Trojans finished with a 302. Shenandoah third with a 315 followed by Glenwood (326), St. Albert (340), Creston (343), Riverside (344), East Mills (373), MVAOCOU (375), Griswold (376) and Logan Magnolia (377).
Jack Kline of Clarinda was the medalist with a 69 (+1) on the par 68 course — Kline started on hole #7 and bogeyed 12 and 13 before getting birdies on 3 of the next 4 holes. Kline had four total birdies, five bogeys and 9 pars.
Gage Gross of Atlantic was the medalist runner up with a 71 including three birdies, six bogeys and 9 pars — Gross started on the first hole and was one under through 10 before three straight bogeys derailed him but recovered to par four of the final five holes.
Brady Wood of Atlanic was tied for third with JJ Martin of Shenandoah with a 72. Clarinda’s Jac Fine and Kort Neal plus Creston’s Marshall Long tied for 5th with a 73.
Also for Atlantic, Sam Brosam was 8th with a 74; Hudson McLaren 11th with a 77; Jack Muller tied for 16th with an 80 and Braxton Hass tied for 41st with a 90.
For Riverside, low round went to James McCready in a tie for 16th with an 80 — McCready did birdie the par 3 16th hole. Peyton Amdor 83 (T23); Grant Richardson 86 (T31); Bennett Hough 87 (T 35); Nathan Smith 88 (T 38); and Austin Zimmerman 95 (53rd)
For Griswold, low round went to Brayden Lockwood with a 95 (T 49); Nollan Smith 100; Colten Taylor 106; and Calden Turner’s score was not posted.
