(Creston, IA) — Lila Wiederstein put herself in a good position to make the Drake Relays in the long jump in the Panther Relays on Monday night. Wiederstein got a season best jump of 17-09.50 to win the event by over two feet. It was her best jump by five inches and she moved from 20th in the state to 10th. Overall, Atlantic was strong in the field events last night — Faith Larsen won the discus with a throw of 101-10 — Jones was also 4th in the shot put (32-08.50). Olson was 2nd in the discus (99-05) and 3rd in the Shot Put (33-11). Emerie Jones was 3rd in the Long Jump (15-04.50).
The field events gave Atlantic 54 team points on their way to winning the meet with 179 points. Creston was 2nd with 143 points, Mount Ayr 3rd with 101, Stanton 4th with 51, Clarke 5th with 43, Southwest Valley 6th with 35 and CBTJ with 18.
Adler Bruce ran a strong race in the 400 Hurdles winning the race and set a new season PR of 1:13.06 — her previous best was 1:13.76 and has the 23rd fastest time in Class 3A. Lila Widerstein won the 100 meter dash in 13.19 seconds, finishing .09 seconds ahead of Avery Staver of Creston at 13.28. Jayci Reed won the 100 Hurdles but could not beat her time from the Sioux City Relays — Reed ran a 16.86 last night while posted a 15.77 on Saturday.
Also for the Trojans, Ximena Mendez Cordero was 2nd in the 800 (2:37.61). Stellah Van Aernam was 2nd in the 200 (26.87) and ran a season PR beating her previous best of 27.03. Allison Middents was 3rd in the 100 at 13.97. Kaitlyn Hickman was 3rd in the 400 (1:06.87). Gabrielle Engler 3rd in the 1500 (5:33.40). Emerie Jones was 4th in the 200 (28.80). Katrina Williams was 5th in the 400 (1:09.20).
Atlantic won two relays — the 4×100 relay finished first with a time of 50.54 with Van Aernam, Reed, Middents and Wiederstein and the 4×400 won at 4:22.03 with Hass, Reese Harlan, Hickman, and Mendez-Cordero. The Sprint Medley relay team finished 2nd with a time of 2:06.14 with Aiza Jones, Middents, Braeliegh Hass and Ximena Mendez Cordero. The 4×200 relay also finished 2nd at 1:51.67 with Stellah Van Aernam, Hass, Taylee Hagen and Widerstein.
Glenwood won the boys meet with 71 points followed by Creston with 38, Southwest Valley 3rd with 21.5, Shenandoah 4th with 16.5, Mount Ayr 5th with 12, Clarke 6th with 9 and Stanton 7th with 3 points.
For Southwest Valley boys, Wyatt Mendenhall won the 400 Hurdles with a time of 56.47 which ranks in the top 25 in the state but is still outside of the top 16 which goes to the Drake Relays.
Simon Hennings of Shenandoah put himself in good position to make the Drake Relays in the discus, winning last night with a throw of 165-5 which ranks 10th in the state.
