(Atlantic) An Atlantic man charged in the death of a child was sentenced to prison this morning.
Corbin Loudermilk, 26, entered a plea of guilty to Count II Child Endangerment Resulting in Death. In the plea agreement, Count I, Murder in the 1st Degree, was dismissed. Loudermilk appeared beside his attorney, Patricia Scheinost
Kahlani Loudermilk was just one month old when she passed away while in the care of her father, Corbin Loudermilk. Kahlani’s mother, Janae Bennum, shared a photo of Kahlani with the court this morning.
Janae reflected on her little girl, whom she said was born healthy and perfect.
The court also heard from Kahlani’s uncle, Jonathan Bennum, who said he was very protective of his sister, Janae. He said when he first met Corbin, he thought Corbin was everything he could ask for. However, he said that all of that changed shortly after Kahlani was born.
The maximum possible punishment for a conviction under Child Endangerment Resulting in Death is an indeterminate term of imprisonment not to exceed fifty years. The State and Corbin Loudermilk agree that the court shall impose a mandatory minimum of three-tenths of the total sentence, for a mandatory minimum sentence of 15-years. Loudermilk was also ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution.
