The case was confirmed in a multi-species backyard flock in Washington County. This marks the fifth confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Iowa so far this year. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship recommends backyard flock owners take precautions to protect their flock and report birds showing symptoms of bird flu.

(Ames, IA) — Iowa State University is ending its women’s gymnastics program. ISU Athletics Director Jamie Pollard says the program will be replaced with another sport that provides equal or additional participation opportunities for women. The athletics department says scholarships will be honored for any gymnast who chooses to stay at the University. Iowa State canceled the remainder of its gymnastics season earlier this month, citing internal conflicts between teammates, coaches, and parents.
New Study: Iowa Regent Universities Added $18B Over One Year
(Undated) — A new study shows that Iowa’s three regent universities have a significant impact on Iowa’s economy. The Lightcast study shows that regent universities added $ 18 billion in income to the state during Fiscal Year 2023-2024. That’s equivalent to 7.7% of the gross state product. The study found that more than 214-thousand jobs, or one out of every 10 jobs, are supported by the activities of the regent universities and their students.
