(Des Moines) Gasoline prices climbed across Iowa over the past week, according to the latest AAA fuel report.
The average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa rose 14 cents from last week to $2.51 per gallon. Despite the increase, prices remain 37 cents lower than this time a year ago. The national average stood at $2.84 on Wednesday, up 2 cents from the previous week.
Crude oil prices also increased. West Texas Intermediate crude rose $5.28 per barrel this week to $61.65, while Brent crude climbed $5.84 to $66.07 per barrel. One year ago, WTI crude was selling for $78.20 per barrel and Brent crude for $82.39.
Diesel prices moved lower in Iowa, falling 5 cents over the past week to an average of $3.20 per gallon. That is down from $3.35 a year ago and remains 31 cents below the national diesel average of $3.51.
Heating fuel prices were mixed. Natural gas prices dropped 41 cents at the Henry Hub to $3.09 per MMbtu. Propane prices in Iowa averaged $1.57 per gallon, while home heating oil prices averaged $2.67 per gallon statewide.
