(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Supervisors were required to meet on the first business day of the new year and on Friday they elected a new chair.
Steve Smith was unanimously elected as the chair for Guthrie County and J.D. Kuester was elected Vice Chair. The previous chair Maggie Armstrong thanked everybody for the past year
The Supervisors then went through routine new business — county paid holidays were approved, the supervisor meeting dates were kept the same on every Tuesday at 9 am. The supervisors will have extended budget meetings at the end of the month.
Appointments were approved for various committees and the supervisors approved the following resolutions.
Resolution 26-16 appoints members of the 2026 Compensation Committee.
Resolution 26-17 authorizes the auditor to pay fixed charges and other claims per Iowa code.
Resolution 26-18 gave the county engineer the right of final acceptance.
Resolution 26-19 is the construction evaluation resolution for large animal confinements.
One Guthrie County resident spoke up at the start of the meeting — Steve Rand encouraged the supervisors to get a proposal done on EMS service by the end of 2026.
The Supervisors had indicated further discussion on the EMS service in the county would be back on the agenda at next Tuesday’s meeting.
