(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Supervisors started the groundwork for the next budget process at Tuesday’s meeting. County Auditor Dani Fink went through the county valuations and says the rural and urban values both went up from 2024 to 2025 although the taxable in rural areas only went up slightly
These figures are used to calculate property taxes although Supervisor Chair Maggie Armstrong and Fink says there is a way to keep property taxes from going up and that is related to the max levy
Fink says she expects to get budgets from the different departments in Guthrie County by January 9th and plans to present numbers to the supervisors by January 20th. The Supervisors did decide to have longer meetings in late January which Fink prefers
The Supervisors are leaning towards having budget meetings in the last week of January and will set a meeting schedule on Friday — by code the county supervisors are required to meet on the first business day of the new year.
