(Lewis) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is modernizing its weekly fishing report, and anglers now have a new way to contribute. John Lorenzen, a Fisheries Biologist with the DNR office in Lewis, says the weekly report is a valuable resource that provides anglers with direct information on which lakes have been producing good bites for specific species.
Lorenzen says the DNR website now allows users to submit their own fishing reports, which will help expand coverage to more waterbodies—provided anglers participate and share details from successful outings.
To submit a report, go to the DNR website and search “fishing report.” A “submit a report” button will appear. The online form will ask where you were fishing, the species you’re reporting on, a 1–5 rating, and any comments you think could help other anglers. Users can also include information about habitat structures fished, trolling speed, jig size, color, or any other practical details.
Submitted reports are emailed directly to Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen and his colleague, who then incorporate the information into the DNR’s weekly fishing report.
