(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board received a report from their School Resource Officer and School Based Interventionist at Wednesday’s meeting.
In April, the Atlantic Police Department welcomed Officer Ben Sandy to the Department as he was assigned as the School Resource Officer for the Atlantic Community School District.
When asked about his goals and current projects, Officer Sandy said he is working on developing an improved D.A.R.E. program for the kids. He mentioned that he has been asked to provide a defensive training class, which is something he would be interested in exploring. He also oversees the ALICE training for the schools.
The School Based Interventionist is a new position at the School District. Deanna Nevills said she is an advocate and mentor for the students and she works with the administrators, counselors, teachers, and staff. Another big piece of her position is to work on attendance.
In May, the school board approved the School Based Interventionist Contract with AEA for the 25-26 school year.
