(Des Moines) The average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa rose by 3 cents this week, now sitting at $2.93 per gallon, according to the latest report from AAA. Despite the weekly increase, prices remain 31 cents lower than this time last year.
Diesel fuel also saw an uptick, with the statewide average climbing 5 cents to $3.34 per gallon. That figure is 27 cents below diesel prices from a year ago and 21 cents under the current national average of $3.55.
Nationwide, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline held steady at $3.18 per gallon.
While pump prices rose in Iowa, the global crude oil market experienced a dip. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell by $1.24, bringing the current price to $62.05 per barrel. Brent crude dropped 87 cents to $65.37. Both benchmarks remain significantly lower than their levels a year ago—WTI was $80.66 and Brent $81.22 at this time in 2024.
Natural gas prices declined as well, falling 12 cents to $3.38 per MMBtu at the Henry Hub reporting site. Retail prices for heating oil and propane in Iowa will resume reporting in October.
