(Council Bluffs) Atlantic’s wrestling team had an impressive showing at the 2024 Council Bluffs Classic Wrestling Tournament, with five wrestlers advancing to the quarterfinals. The two-day tournament, featuring 45 schools from across the Midwest, began on Friday. The Trojans entered ten wrestlers, and five remain in the hunt for individual titles.
Keaton Schroeder (106) went undefeated on the day, winning his first-round match in the championship bracket, and will compete in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Collin Harris (113) also posted a perfect 4-0 record, advancing to the quarterfinals. Braxton Hass (126) impressed with a 4-0 record, securing his spot in the quarterfinals. Aiden Smith (120) had an outstanding 5-0 performance, including four pins and a tech fall, earning a quarterfinal berth. Evan Sorensen (138) also dominated, picking up three pins and a bye, and will wrestle in the quarterfinals.
Donte Hedrington (132) wrestled at a high level but fell short in his first-round championship match. He will compete in the consolation bracket on Saturday, along with Kalvin Hayes (144), Jayden Harter (150), and Dreven Smith (157), who each won their first-round consolation matches. Carter Hadley (132) was eliminated in the first round of consolation.
The Atlantic girls also had strong performances. Cadence Kinzie (115) went undefeated on the day, winning her first-round championship match. Leah Thomas (170) fell short in her first round championship match, while Haley Armstrong (235) went 3-0, making it a successful day for the Trojan girls as well.
