(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors approved a request from Landus Cooperative to install a 90,000-gallon anhydrous ammonia storage tank at its facility located at 53751 650th Street, northeast of Atlantic.
Kasey Harken, with Landus Cooperative, told the board the additional tank is needed at the company’s existing facility.
Harken said the project must meet numerous requirements established by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS), including setback regulations.
He said IDALS has already granted approval for Landus to move forward with the application process, contingent upon approval from the Cass County Board of Supervisors.
In other business, the board tabled setting a public hearing for a zoning change request submitted by John Mark Topham. Topham is seeking to rezone property on Yankton Road near Griswold from General Agricultural to Light Industrial.
The property was the site of a large shed fire in recent weeks. The Cass County Zoning Commission considered the request the day after the fire but denied it, asking Topham to provide additional information about his future plans for the property. The proposed Light Industrial zoning would allow Topham to continue operating his shop but would not permit a salvage yard.

The supervisors also approved the resignation of Christin Short from the Cass County Veterans Affairs Commission, effective June 30. In addition, the board appointed Brenda Williams to the Cass County Local Food Policy Council, effective July 1, 2026.
