(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines continues to call for a chance for freezing rain on Friday evening.
Brooke Hagenhoff, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, says bitterly cold temperatures will persist until Friday, rising towards the freezing mark. More importantly, precipitation will start to move into the region Friday evening into Saturday.
Hagenhoff says the main threat for freezing rain over one-tenth of an inch is along the Interstate 80 corridor and north. However, parts of southern Iowa and south of Interstate 80 could have a trace amount of ice, especially during the evening hours on Friday.
Hagenhoff says anyone with travel plans on Friday evening needs to be aware of the development of black ice.
