(Des Moines) Cory Martin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, says people interested in weekend travel should pay attention to the forecast.
Martin says the cold weather settling in today will be with us through Friday morning when the temperatures start to warm up. This will bring with it some wintry precipitation moving into southwest Iowa. Martin says rain will be spreading northward into the state starting Friday afternoon into the evening hours, and it may be cold enough to produce freezing rain.
Martin says the precipitation will work through southeast Nebraska and along the Interstate 80 corridor, affecting southwest Iowa and much of the state.
Meanwhile, strong northwest winds are forecast to develop today, with gusts in the 25-to-35-mile range. Wind chill temperatures are expected to drop into the single digits to below zero.
