(Atlantic) The Atlantic girls’ basketball team showcased an impressive defense that propelled the Trojans to a swift start, resulting in a 54-30 victory over Glenwood in a Hawkeye Ten Conference game on Friday. Atlantic surged to a 17-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended their dominance with a 10-0 run in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a commanding 27-0 lead.
Makenna Schroeder shined in the first half, contributing 15 points, including four three-pointers. Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason praised the team’s offensive execution, stating that everything they planned worked effectively.
Paytn Harter led the Trojans with 20 points, followed by Schroeder with 15, and Katrina Williams added ten points. Coach Vargason also commended Lila Wiederstein for her composure in managing early fouls.
The Trojans started the second half strong, pushing their lead to 30-0. However, Glenwood found their offensive rhythm in the third quarter, scoring 13 points, and finished the game with 17 points in the final period. Maggie McChesney led Glenwood’s offense with four three-pointers and a total of 16 points for the game. With this victory, Atlantic improves to 2-2 for the season and 1-0 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference, while Glenwood falls to 0-2.
