(Anderson, IN) The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on a deadly plane crash in Indiana that killed four Iowans.
On September 6, a Piper PA-46-350P airplane, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Anderson, Indiana. The pilot, two pilot-rated passengers, and one passenger were fatally injured. The flight departed Fort Dodge Regional Airport in Iowa at 6:47 a.m. central daylight time. At around 9:47 eastern daylight time, the pilot of the Piper aircraft asked to change his approach as he neared the airport, but the plane drifted off course and crashed in a cornfield.
One witness observed the airplane come up above a tree line in a climb. Shortly afterward, the airplane stopped climbing “all of a sudden”, rolled to the right, and entered a descent. The engine was loud and sounded like it was “really revving”. A second witness also reported hearing the airplane engine “revved up”, decreased, and then “revved up” again, before it cutout.
The four victims of the plane crash were identified as Joseph R. Scallon, age 68, of Iowa Falls, Iowa; “Owen” James Renaud, age 19, of Alden, Iowa; Jesse H. Ostheimer, age 41, of Alden, Iowa; and Braden W. Hicks, age 36, of Manson, Iowa.
