(Denison) The Denison-Schleswig enters week two with some momentum after its come-from-behind 21-10 win over Storm Lake last week. The Monarchs fell behind early 10-0; however, they overcame the adversity and scored 21 straight points.
Karson Bruhn, the Monarchs quarterback, played well in his first varsity start. The junior completed 9/15 passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
Angel Rodriguez led the receiving corps with 2 catches for 51 yards and one touchdown. Trae Hartwig led the running attack with 21 carries for 85 yards. There are others who handled the running back chores as well. Baughman says Hartwig got a workout last Friday night.
Baughman mentions Atlantic All-District and All-State running back Ethan McNeal as a dynamic player. McNeal, who rushed for over 1,300 yards last season, carried the ball 17 times for 68 yards against a tough Glenwood defense last week.
Coach Baughman says it will be key to get a better start, take better care of the ball, and force turnovers. The Monarchs had morning practice to beat the heat on Wednesday.
