William “Bill” Lyle Archibald, age 84, of Clive, IA, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA.

Bill was born to Frank and Jane Archibald on November 10, 1939, in Palo Alto, CA. He joined his four-year-old sister, Nancy. Their family lived predominately in Redwood City except for a short stay in Marin County while Frank worked on the AlCan Highway. He attended local elementary schools and graduated from Sequoia High School in 1957. He was thwarted from joining the Air Force as he had an altercation with a road grader. The grader won, and Bill spent three months in the hospital. He attended San Mateo Community College for a few years before transferring to Dana College in Blair, NE, where he graduated in 1962. He met his future wife, Judy Jensen there and they were married on November 30, 1963, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, IA. They started their married life in Redwood City, CA, where Bill worked with his father at C.F. Archibald Paving. Their son Curtis arrived in 1965. (His grandfather and seven uncles breathed a sigh of relief as they finally had a boy to carry on the Archibald legacy). Kristen came along in 1966, and Katrina in 1973. They all became 3rd generation graduates of Sequoia High School. Following their fathers footsteps, Curtis and Kristen graduated from Dana College in 1988, which delighted their parents. Katrina and Nebraska did not get along; she graduated from Notre Dame College in Belmont, CA, while dealing with a toddler and the effects of MS.
Bill and Judy were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Redwood City, where Bill served on the school board. He was president of Sequoia High School PTSA and a long time member of the Sequoia Kiwanis Club. He belonged to the Peninsula Celebration Association, where he helped with the annual July 4th parade. For many years the PCA members built floats which were entered in other Northern California parades. The Archibald family summer vacations often consisted of watching our city’s float in numerous parades. Winning our division was always a plus.
Bill had many favorite things: watching the 49’ers and SF Giants, playing blackjack in Reno, spending time in Graeagle and Mesa, fishing in Alaska,
Cruising anywhere, eating at the Canyon Inn and Bentleys, golfing and hosting golf tournaments in Graeagle, Grandma Helga’s liver and onions, houseboat/card playing trips at Lake Shasta, spending any amount of time with his beloved grandsons, Kaj, Chase, Holden and Harrison.
Bill is survived by his wife, Judy; son Curtis (Julie); daughter Kristen Moreau (David); and daughter Katrina Archibald. He was so proud of his four grandsons, Kaj and Chase Archibald, Holden Anderson and Harrison Moreau. He is also survived by his sister-in -law, Kathy Jensen and her children, Karin, Ryan, Kirsten and Justin; his sister Nancy’s children, Chris, Kate, David and Gregory.
Preceded in Bill’s death are his parents and his sister Nancy.
Curtis often said that his Dad was like the Energizer Bunny; you could push him down, but he would pop up again; he survived blood clots, cancer, a stroke, heart issues, and a leg amputation. This time, he couldn’t fight the inevitable: Farewell to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We picture you playing cribbage with all comers and winning.
