(Atlantic) Atlantic produced another impressive night of offense last Friday night in the 35-34 overtime win over Glenwood. The Trojans enter Friday night’s home game against Greene County with a 3-0 record.
Atlantic racked up 377 total yards of offense with 263 rushing yards and another 114 passing in last Friday’s win over Glenwood. Through three games, Atlantic has rolled up 1,062 yards on the ground. The special teams have also contributed significantly to the Trojans’ early success. Jarrett Hansen has three kick-off returns for 124 yards, and Ethan McNeal raced 95 yards to paydirt to open the game last Friday night. Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer credits McNeal and the downfield blocking for the kick-off return for a touchdown.
The Trojans won dramatically on Friday. Glenwood tied the game with seconds left in regulation, sending it into overtime. Each team got a shot at the goal line from the ten. One of the keys in overtime was winning the coin toss and possessing the ball last. Coach Brummer says it started with Captain Reid Woodward winning the coin toss.
The Trojans took advantage of Glenwood’s missed extra point. Quarterback Tristan Hayes fired a TD pass to Jarrett Hansen to tie the game, and kicker Hadin Thompson followed with the extra point for the win. Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer says the pass play is something they had worked on in practice.
The 3-0 Trojans host 1-1 Greene County on Friday night. The kick-off is at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM and video-streamed on westerniowatoday.com. The pregame show starts at 6:00 p.m.
