(Des Moines) June is ending as a scorcher with plenty of thunderstorms in Iowa. Iowa State Climatologist Dr. Justin Glisan says the end of the month will have high temperatures and plenty of rainfall due to a “ring of fire” weather configuration.
Glisan said those storms will be appreciated because, believe it or not, Iowa is behind on precipitation in June.
The corn crop will also be releasing plenty of moisture into the air, which Glisan says will increase relative humidity and provide plenty of fuel for storms.
The high temperatures and humidity also pose health risks for both humans and livestock, so make sure to take it easy and stay hydrated if you have to be outside.
Again, that’s Iowa state climatologist Justin Glisan.
