(Greenfield) As the community continues to recover from the devastating tornado that struck on May 21, here are the latest updates and reminders:
- Debris Removal Deadline: All storm debris must be moved to the right-of-way by Monday evening, June 10. Cleanup crews will commence their final sweep early Tuesday morning. Please note the change from the previous message, which stated debris needed to be to the right-of-way by Tuesday, June 11. Storm debris refers to materials directly caused by the tornado and excludes demolition debris.
- Private Hauling: Individuals hauling storm debris privately must call 641-743-8343 before transporting any items to the Adair County Landfill.
- Services at Nodaway Valley Elementary School:
- FEMA’s Disaster Relief Center operates daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- The Red Cross is available for recovery assistance, with volunteers working from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday.
- Housing Demolition Guidelines:
- Contact your insurance company for guidance.
- Contact the volunteer center between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. for house demolition needs at 641-631-6555 or engage a city-approved licensed contractor.
- If your home’s foundation is being removed, contact Greenfield Municipal Utilities at 844-580-0810, Option 2, to ensure sewer inspections.
- Paid Contractors and Builders:
- Paid contractors are required to complete an application, pay a $100 fee, submit certificates of insurance, and undergo a background check at city hall before engaging with residents. Certificates of insurance can be emailed to laura.wolfe@gmu-ia.com.
- Builders must also complete an application and obtain a building permit from City Hall. For more information, call 844-580-0810, Option 1.
