(Oakland, IA) – Riverside softball is currently sitting at a record of 5-4-1 this season and a Western Iowa Conference record of 4-1. The Bulldogs started the season with a victory against Missouri Valley 1-0. The Lady Reds were preseason rated No. 4 in 2A and it was a big-time win for Lacey Patterson’s ball club.
Patterson is hoping that these early tough games will better prepare the Bulldogs for the postseason.
The Bulldogs return everyone from a year ago and are now running on two years without a senior on the roster. Riverside posted a 15-11 record a year ago but with Sophia Fenner starting the bulk of games in the pitcher’s circle. This year, eighth-grader Peyton Schafer has started all but one game for the Bulldogs at pitcher and has improved the defense with Fenner returning to her more dynamic position, shortstop.
Riverside has multiple freshmen leading major statistical categories but what sticks out when looking at the Bulldogs’ stat sheet is Patterson will return all of her starters for another season.
Coach Patterson is happy with the development her players have made in the offseason and believes there is more to come.
The Bulldogs will take on Lenox tomorrow (June 5) at home starting at 7:15 and Logan-Magnolia on the road on Thursday.
