(Norwalk, IA) – With the tempo on Montezuma’s side through three-quarters of the game mixed with a stagnant offense, the CAM Cougars fell in Norwalk 60-47. Jadyn Sharer was the key player for the Bravettes as she had 20 points, 12 of which came in the second half.
CAM struggled to get off to a consistent offensive tempo after the first quarter. It was almost as if the rim itself had a wager for the Cougars not to score. One player who had an uncharacteristic night was Eva Steffensen who finished with just eight points. Head Coach Joe Wollum knows that when you put her in any other game, those would fall through.
One player who CAM relied on all night long was Meredith Rich who finished with 17 points on the night, 14 of which came in the first half of action. Without Rich, the game would’ve gotten out of hand even earlier.
CAM also featured Kiera Nichols over her season average with 15 points. Emma Follman knocked down five second-half points while Carley Dennis finished off the two scorers with three. These seniors all were essential pieces to the success of this CAM team.
Looking down the opposite side of the floor, Montezuma’s Ellen Cook knocked down 13 points, eight of which were on free throws alongside Shiressa Wetering who also had 13 points. Clare Erselius had eight points while Vivian Cook knocked in six.
While this senior squad will not be involved in any more postseason basketball, they look on to the spring and summer sports seasons.
The future is bright for the CAM Cougars who feature multiple freshmen who have been learning from the seniors and developing all season long.
CAM finished the year 21-3 with a 14-2 conference record while Montezuma continues on with a 19-4 record and finished 13-2 overall in their conference. Congratulations to the CAM Cougars on such a fun and successful season.
