(Perry) Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger, shot and wounded during the January 4 School shooting, has died from his injuries, according to the Perry School District. He was among seven people injured in the shooting. One student was killed, according to Authorities at the January 4 Press Conference. Authorities later identified the student as 11-year-old Ahmir Jolliff.
Today, Governor Kim Reynolds issued the following statement on the death of Dan Marburger, principal of Perry High School:
“Our entire state is devastated by the news of Dan Marburger’s death. Kevin and I offer our deepest condolences to his wife and family as we pray for their comfort during this difficult time. Dan courageously put himself in harm’s way to protect his students and ultimately gave his own life to save them. He will forever be remembered for his selfless and heroic actions. May he rest in peace.”
Gov. Reynolds has ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, January 14, 2024, and remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of Mr. Marburger’s funeral and internment.
Flags will be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state.
Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties, and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff at the same time as a sign of respect.
