(Avoca, IA) – AHSTW has been putting in the hard work this wrestling season, and it has started to pay off for the Vikings. While they may not be dominating the Western Iowa Conference, they have kept pace with teams in their conference. Head Coach Evan Hansen wants his guys to continue to put in the hard work every day while fixing the little things along the way.
One wrestler has helped AHSTW be one of the most competitive teams in the WIC. That wrestler is Kayden Baxter who came in first in the conference in his respective weight class (157) after he beat Will Buckholdt of Underwood in the championship match. He is a wrestler who could go to the top if he continues to keep up his momentum.
Another Viking who has shown great improvement was Henry Lund who also came in first in his respective weight class (215) in the WIC Tournament after he beat Carson Edney of Logan-Magnolia.
Coach Hansen has continued to see vast improvement just in his first year of coaching with his athletes. Both Wyatt Evans and Sawyer Kiesel are a pair of athletes who have continued to show improvements even in their senior years. If they keep this up, their record will only go up from that point on.
Enjoyment for Coach Hansen comes from the guys and the improvements that he has seen out on the mats. Wrestling is a sport that you take lessons from to utilize in life and he is just looking to continue to have an impact on the lives of his wrestlers.
AHSTW will return back to the mats on January 2nd in a Triangular with Southwest Iowa and Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln at 5:00 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln High School.
