(Atlantic) So far, a warm, dry winter means additional work done on bridge and road construction projects around Southwest Iowa.
Scott Suhr, District 4 Transportation Planner for the Iowa Department of Transportation, says the above-normal temperatures have allowed contractors to catch up on some projects delayed due to contractors’ schedules or material availability.
Suhr says one of those projects is the Council Bluffs Interstate project, specifically on Madison Avenue. The other projects benefiting from the warmer temperatures are the Interstate 80 Raccoon River Bridge projects.
Suhr says they are discussing whether to keep working on the Highway 59 bridge construction project south of Avoca or wait until next spring.
Suhr says when the temperatures are in the 40s and 50s, they can get more work done than in a typical winter, even though the days are shorter.
The average high temperature for this time of year is 31 degrees, and the average low is 13 degrees. The forecast is for high temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday with lows in the low thirties and highs in the 50s Thursday through Sunday with lows in the 40s.
