(Guthrie Center) – ACGC enters the 2023 football season under a new classification and set of opponents. The Chargers have gone from Class 1A to Class A following the re-districting conducted every two years.
Head Coach Cody Matthewson has 44 players on the roster, led by five seniors. One thing very noticeable about this year’s squad is the size of the guys on the front line.
The Chargers are going to run the same type three back offense. Matthewson notes one position change. Mike Fuller is moving from the front line to fullback.
Two players are battling for the quarterback position now open following three-year starter Brock Littler’s graduation.
Coach Matthewson says the focus is on defense. He says the staff has made some changes on the defensive side of the ball. He says they have more depth allowing them to run a different scheme than in past years. Coach Matthewson says conditioning is the other main emphasis during the off-season.
The Chargers open the season at home on August 25 against Class 1A Ogden in a non-district game.
Joining ACGC in Class A District 7 are; Earlham, IKM/Manning, Panorama, Riverside, South Central Calhoun, and Southwest Valley.
