(Burlington) Authorities are still trying to determine what led to a deadly hostage situation that triggered a chase through half of Iowa. Police were called to an apartment in Des Moines Sunday on calls of a woman being held at gunpoint. When they arrived, they determined that the suspect had kidnapped the woman and fled the scene. Authorities ultimately tracked the suspect toward the eastern part of the state and began chasing his vehicle. Police say the suspect pulled over in Burlington and fatally shot himself outside the vehicle. The kidnapped woman suffered minor injuries in the incident.
