Terry’s happy, joyful spirit joined this world in Council Bluffs, Iowa on October 30, 1945, to Orville Vernon and Edith Marie (Hauger) Haines. While growing up in Oakland, Iowa, the twinkle of mischievousness never left his eye throughout his entire life. He enjoyed spending time with his best friend, Wayne Harvey, being active in FFA, wrestling, football, MYF, and being on the farm. Upon graduation from Oakland High School in 1964, Terry attended Iowa Western and received his degree in combination welding.
During his high school years, Terry began his courtship with his wife of 57 years, Cyndy. The couple was united in marriage on Friday, May 13, 1966, and to this union, two children were born, Susan Lynn and Heath Wayne. Throughout his life, Terry was an active member of the Riverside Optimist Club and the Oakland United Methodist Church. His generosity of spirit, work ethic, and smile are attributes celebrated by all who knew and loved him.
Terry worked for 34 years for Northern Natural Gas outside of Oakland. Upon retirement, he sought ways to continue his commitment to the community of Oakland while staying busy attending the activities of his grandchildren and then by teaching those grandchildren the value of volunteer work. As a testament to this, Terry and Cyndy were honored as Grand Marshals of the 2014 Independence Day Parade and then Terry was named as the Oakland 2015 Alumnus of the Year. But it was the love of family that gave Terry the immeasurable joy that he always seemed to outwardly display. He honored his role as a loving and considerate husband and father above all else, leaving countless memories for his family to hold dear.Terry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jeraldyne.
