(Atlantic) (22-15) Atlantic takes on (11-18) Shenandoah in a Class 3A Region 4 semi-final at Atlantic tonight. The game will be broadcast on 95.7 F.M. The pregame starts at 6:50 p.m.
The Trojans defeated the Fillies in a regular season doubleheader on June 12, 9-1 and 7-1. Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann says Shenandoah probably felt they did not play their best game against Atlantic the first time.
Hinzmann says the Fillies are led offensively by Jenna Burdorf.
Coach Hinzmann expects the Fillie pitchers to throw a lot of off-speed stuff similar to what the Trojans saw the first time the two met at Shenandoah. Peyton Athen is 7-12 on the season with 107 strikeouts, 53 walks, and nine hit batters. The sophomore has logged 122 innings with an ERA of 3.20. Jenna Burdorf is 4-6 with 57 strikeouts, 38 walks, and seven hit batters in 75.2 innings of work with an ERA of 3.05.
Atlantic used three pitchers during the regular season. Riley Wood pitched the five-inning one-hitter against Red Oak on Thursday night. Wood is 15-5 on the season with 103 strikeouts, 30 walks, and seven hit batters. In her 122 innings pitched, Wood has held teams to a batting average of .189 and sports a 2.01 ERA.
Atlantic is hitting .326 as a team. Shenandoah is batting .268.
The game will start around 7:00 p.m. after the Exira/EHK Woodbine contest.
