(Des Moines, IA) — A group of around 100 people shot fireworks at Des Moines police officers and firefighters late July 4th. The emergency responders got reports of a fire started by a firework at the Oakridge Apartments around 11 p.m. on Independence Day. Police say mortar-sized fireworks and Roman candles were launched at more than a dozen first responders. Fire crews found there was no fire at the building. No arrests were made. It was one of two incidents of someone shooting fireworks at people during Independence Day weekend. The Des Moines Police Department says they got nearly 700 fireworks complaints from July 1st through yesterday.
