(Audubon) A new phone system at the Audubon County Courthouse is up and running.
It’s been nearly two years in the making. Board of Supervisor’s Chairman Doug Sorensen says all phones have been installed in the court house and secondary roads. “We finally got the upgrade done. All the phones are in, which will put us on a whole new system where long distance calls will be funneled through the internet. The Sheriff’s Department will have the old POTS lines, plain old telephone service, so if the internet goes down they still have phones.”
All of the previous phones were at least 25 years old. “That’s all a big project that took a lot of technical know how. We held off until we got an IT Director and he got us through it and got it done.”
There will be a cost savings for the county, especially when it comes to long distance phone calls. Sorensen indicates things are going as smooth as can be expected thus far. “So far everyone has gotten along very well with it other than learning the new system and learning which buttons to push. With every new technology change there’s some learning that goes along with it, but everybody was pretty happy with it so far.”
In other news, the courthouse will hold an Active Shooter Training in the near future. Sorensen says some department heads had requested it and Sheriff Todd Johnson approached the board about it. It’ll be done in conjunction with Stop the Bleed Training and CPR Training.
