(Des Moines, Iowa) USDA Rural Development is awarding more than $2.8 million in grants to four projects in Minden and Greenfield to help rebuild critical infrastructure following the 2024 tornadoes.
USDA Rural Development Iowa State Director Mike Sexton says the funding will support long-term disaster recovery and essential services.
Minden will receive $1.844 million in two grants to replace its water treatment plant, which was destroyed by a tornado on April 26, 2024. The city is currently using a temporary water treatment facility.
In Greenfield, Adair County Memorial Hospital will receive $811,800 in two grants. The funding will help replace the hospital’s destroyed emergency medical services building and one ambulance. The EMS building was destroyed in the May 21, 2024, EF-4 tornado.
The city of Greenfield will receive $226,000 to help reconstruct the municipal fire station and replace outdoor warning sirens damaged in the tornado.
U.S. Representative Zach Nunn says the USDA investment will help strengthen critical infrastructure and public safety in the two communities.
