(Oakland) Riverside Community School District has announced that Casey Moran, Assistant Director of Special Education for the Council Bluffs Community School District and Dr. Stephanie Anderson, Director of Elementary Education and Student Services, Fort Dodge Community School District have been selected as the finalists for the Riverside Community School District Superintendent position.
Stakeholder groups and the School Board will complete final interviews on Wednesday April 5, 2023. The Board had sixteen applications and interviewed six semifinalists before selecting them for final interviews.
Current Riverside Superintendent, Dr. Timothy Mitchell, announced his retirement in January and will be leaving the District at the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
Over the past 19 years Casey Moran has served the youth and community of the Council Bluffs School District in a variety of roles. His roles have included teaching multiple grades in the elementary and middle school settings, a secondary math instructional coach, coaching middle school basketball and high school soccer, elementary principal, mentor to new administrators, and his current role as the Assistant Director of Special Education. Over the past decade, under the formal leadership roles of Mr. Moran, the Council Bluffs District has experienced many successes in the areas of student development and academic progress. He has been a key member during enrollment studies and the renovation of multiple school buildings. His work on human resources, special education, communication, and other district level committees have led to the efficient use of district resources to meet the needs of the students and staff. He has been involved in curriculum writing, implementation of new materials, implementing a 1:1 device for students in K-12, refinement of the professional growth system, development of building and district budgets, and secondary transition among many other responsibilities as a leader. Rue Elementary, a Title I School, was recognized as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School school in the Exemplary High Performing Schools category under his leadership. Other achievements included receiving the Council Bluffs Principal of the Year Award in 2019 and being a state nominee for Principal of the Year by the School Administrators of lowa. These achievements are a result of the recognition from his peers of his leadership and the contributions to the achieving the goals of the district. Casey Moran holds a bachelor’s degree from Creighton University along with a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he is in the dissertation stage of their doctoral program.
Dr. Stephanie Anderson brings a variety of educational experiences to the superintendent position. She grew up on a farm outside of Newell, Iowa, graduating from Newell-Fonda High School and earning her BA from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. She started her teaching career as an elementary classroom teacher in Vermillion, South Dakota and then in Storm Lake, Iowa while earning her MA from the University of South Dakota. She attended the Iowa Principal Leadership Academy to earn her administrative endorsement, which led to her serving as the assistant elementary principal and early childhood principal in Spencer, Iowa. She then served as the head elementary principal in Fort Dodge, Iowa while earning her PhD from the University of Kentucky. Most recently she has held the position of director of elementary education and student services in Fort Dodge, Iowa while earning her superintendent certification from the University of Northern Iowa. These educational experiences have grounded her in her educational beliefs of being strengths-based, making decisions that keep students at the center, and the importance of building collaborative relationships within the school community and beyond, while leading with integrity every step of the way. She is excited about what the Riverside School District and communities have to offer, and she looks forward to the opportunity to serve the district and communities. Her husband, Chris, is a computer science teacher at the Fort Dodge Middle School; their daughter, McKaelyn, is a junior at Iowa State University majoring in special education; and their son, Carter, is a junior at Fort Dodge Senior High attending the ICCC Triton Academy simultaneously
